A promising start, a confusing middle and a not-good-enough finish. Saturday’s loss to No. 9 Oklahoma had all the components of Kansas State’s 2017 football season condensed into four wild quarters. Led by Heisman candidate Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma erased a 21-7 deficit before winning 42-35 on a 22-yard Rodney Anderson touchdown run with seven seconds left. KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Authorities have seized camel milk in Kansas that prosecutors allege falsely claim unproven health benefits. The Kansas City Star reports that legal action was filed Thursday in federal court seeking forfeiture of the seized products. Prosecutors allege the California company selling the products advertises them for treatment of autism, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, cancer and other diseases. September unemployment numbers in Manhattan were down considerably from the month before, according to information just released by the Kansas Department of Labor. The 3.3 percent unemployment rate was down from 4.1 in August for the Manhattan metro area including Riley and Pottawatomie Counties. The Manhattan/Junction City combined statistical area showed a lower rate also of 3.1 percent compared to 3.9 in August. Junction City’s micro area in Geary County had a 4.9 percent unemployment rate. LAWRENCE — Authorities have arrested a man suspected of fatally shooting three people earlier this month in a popular downtown area of a Kansas college town. Lawrence police said in a news release that the U.S. Marshals took 20-year-old Anthony Laron Roberts Jr. into custody Wednesday in Kansas City, Missouri, on charges of murder and attempted murder. One day earlier, two others were charged with less serious offenses. The shooting happened early Oct. 1 as people were leaving bars, concerts and other events on the main downtown Lawrence street. LAWRENCE — Four teenagers who are running for governor of Kansas got a chance to discuss their policy positions at a forum in front of other high school students. The candidates, all under 18, appeared together Thursday at Lawrence Free State High School, where they discussed issues such as abortion, taxes, gun control and legalizing marijuana. The teens are able to run because Kansas doesn’t set any age restrictions for gubernatorial candidates. A man charged in connection with a Wamego kidnapping this past May entered a plea in Pottawatomie County Court Thursday.  David Rojas, 31, of Wamego, entered a plea of no contest to kidnapping and criminal discharge of a firearm and was found guilty by the court. His sentencing is set for December 14th. Rojas was arrested in Wamego after police received reports of gun fire. No one was injured. Riley County informed Pottawatomie County officials Thursday afternoon during a monthly joint meeting between the two governments, along with the City of Manhattan, that they would not consolidate ambulance services. The meeting was held inside the Riley County Commission Chambers in Manhattan.
