Officers filed a report for aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery, aggravated assault and kidnapping in Odgen, Kansas on October 11, 2017. Officers listed a 24 year old female as the victim when she reported a male suspect known to her battered her and would not let her leave. Riley County Police have announced financial card readers, also known as skimmers, were discovered in Ogden in the 400 block of Riley Avenue. A Shop Quik store is located at that address. Area residents are asked to keep an eye on their bank accounts if they use financial cards to pay for fuel. In a tweet and Facebook post from RCPD with photos attached, it’s noted there are different types of skimmers with some external on gas pumps or ATMs, that blend in, or others that are internal and steal information electronically. A Manhattan woman was injured in an accident on Highway 24 near Walters Drive, on the northeast side of Manhattan, Wednesday afternoon.  Alexis Hamilton, 35, was taken to Via Christi following the accident, reported shortly after two p.m. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Hamilton was driving a Pontiac passenger car eastbound on highway 24 when her vehicle struck the rear of another vehicle which was also eastbound on highway 24. TOPEKA — A top state official says Kansas works to find missing foster care children swiftly. The comments come after legislators expressed outrage after learning during a committee meeting Tuesday that more than 70 foster children are missing. Department for Children and Families Secretary Phyllis Gilmore said Wednesday that many missing children are located quickly and returned to their foster homes. Gilmore also says that in some cases, foster children who are considered to be on the run are actually with a parent who is trying to keep them out of foster care. They listed Studer Truck Line as the victim when it was reported two known male suspects altered business checks then cashed them. The total loss associated with this case is approximately $8,618.00. For the first time in program history, Kansas State women’s soccer has garnered a pair of Big 12 weekly honors as senior goalkeeper Miranda Larkin was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week while forward Hannah Davis earned the league’s Freshman of the Week award on Tuesday. TOPEKA — Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback has issued his first pardon in almost seven years in office to a man convicted of felony theft as a college student in 1994. Brownback’s office announced the pardon Tuesday for Mark Schmitt of Parker, Colorado. Schmitt is a Liberal native convicted of felony theft while living as a college student in Ottawa. The governor’s office said the charge arose from a false insurance claim for $1,552. It said Schmitt completed probation, paid restitution and had his record expunged. TOPEKA — Former Republican presidential candidate and U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole has returned home after being hospitalized for three weeks with low blood pressure. Dole spokeswoman Marion Watkins said in an email Tuesday that the 94-year-old former Kansas senator was discharged Thursday from the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center outside Washington, D.C. He was hospitalized Sept. 13. Dole tweeted last week that he’s “happy to be home.” He lives in the D.C. area.
