Riley County commissioners heard a request to aid in the renovations of Peace Memorial Auditorium in Manhattan Monday morning. Friends of Peace Memorial Auditorium President Dave Fiser asked the commission for a $30,000 contribution. While commissioners said it’s unclear what they can do, they urged Fiser to come back with the request when they begin the budget formulation process this summer. “(That building) has a lot of meaning to me, anyway,” said commissioner Ron Wells, a life-long resident of Riley County. Rock Creek Schools Superintendent Darrel Stufflebeam will be taking a job as the superintendent of USD 469 in Lansing. The Riley County Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance in the city limits of Manhattan, Kansas and an arrest was made. This arrest took place at 7:30 AM on April 8, 2016 in the 6000 block of Tuttle Terrace and was for the offenses of domestic battery, criminal threat, and criminal restraint. The victims, whose identity has been withheld due to the domestic nature of this crime, were an 18 and 19-year-old female. TOPEKA — Kansas is delaying roughly $90 million in contributions to pensions for public school and college employees as a potential short-term response to lower-than-expected tax collections. Gov. Sam Brownback’s office announced the move Friday. It said Brownback’s budget director notified the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System that the contributions due on April 15 would be “temporarily delayed.” Brownback spokeswoman Eileen Hawley said it’s not yet clear how long the contributions will be delayed.
