Kevin Leon Mason, 30, was arrested for burglary and interference with a law enforcement officer. Bail was was set at $15,000. Juan Lopez Perez, 24, was taken into custody for criminal threat, domestic battery, criminal restraint and aggravated intimidation of a victim. Perez was issued a bond of $30,000.00 and at the time of this report remains confined at the Riley County Jail. Evan Dary Megaw, 37, of Ogden, KS, was arresting after she violated her probation. She is being held a the Riley County Jail on a $5,000.00 bond.

Kirk Schulz has been confirmed as the 11th president of Washington State University and will receive a five-year contract with a base salary of $625,000 per year, according a report from the Associated Press released Friday afternoon. The WSU Board of Regents made those decisions at a meeting on Friday. Schulz’s salary for the 2015-16 school year at Kansas State University was $476,000. The previous Washington State University president, Elson Floyd, made $725,000. The regents also decided that Schulz will receive an additional retention incentive of $25,000 per year. WICHITA — Police in Wichita say a man was arrested after attacking and injuring his roommate with a machete after being asked about his job. Police say the 46-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and property destruction related to the Thursday night confrontation. The 28-year-old victim was treated at the scene for cuts on his neck and hands. There was no immediate word Friday about formal charges.
Firefighters returned to the scene of a house fire Friday morning that had already sustained $10,000 worth of damage due to a possible electrical mishap. Riley County Fire Department crews from the Keats station returned to 3090 Keats Ave. to find the home fully engulfed. Crews extinguished the fire and cleared the scene around 10 a.m. after being called around 5:18 a.m. Riley County Emergency Management Director Pat Collins told KMAN some kind of spark may had got into the cellulose insulation Thursday during that part of the fire, though the blaze is still under investigation. The City of Manhattan will host a public meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at City Hall to discuss the proposed components of the 2016 Community Development Block Grant Annual Action Plan. Last fall, the City asked for project ideas from the community at-large. Those have been evaluated, combined and categorized to fall within the parameters of CDBG funding guidelines. The draft plan includes more than $200,000 for electrical upgrades at the Douglass Community Center and for kitchen modifications at the Riley County Seniors’ Service Center. SALINA — Authorities are looking for a mother and her two children who haven’t been seen since they left their central Kansas home last week to attend a school event. The missing family has been identified as Rebecka L. Lorentsen and her two children, 15-year-old Donald Lorentsen and 7-year-old Ember Schultz. They were last seen leaving for Salina South High School on March 31. Police say they were going to ride a bus to the school, but they didn’t arrive at the school and didn’t return home. Officers with the Riley County Police Department filed a report for and made an arrest in an investigation into violation of protection order and criminal trespass. Lucas Paar, 22, of Manhattan, was arrested on Thursday at approximately 12:30 p.m. for the aforementioned offenses and was given “no bond.” At the time of this report he was confined at the Riley County Jail. WICHITA — Wichita police say a 2-year-old boy hospitalized after a small octopus became wedged in this throat is improving. Police Lt. James Espinoza said Thursday the boy has been upgraded to good condition and doesn’t show signs of long-term injury caused by oxygen deprivation to the brain. The boy has been hospitalized since Tuesday night. That’s when the child’s 21-year-old mother returned home from work and found her boyfriend performing CPR on her son.
