On Wednesday’s In Focus, Cathy had the chance to visit with many different officials from Pottawatomie County. Commissioner Travis Altenhofen and Public Works Director Peter Clark chimed in on many of the various projects and challenges facing the county. Jack Allston, Pottawatomie County Economic Development Corporation Executive Director, also visited about matters of economic development. Later in the show, Cathy heard from two figureheads on agriculture including Barry Flinchbaugh, Professor Emeritus in Agricultural Economics, and Deborah Kohl, Program Coordinator for the Agribusiness Masters Program at the K-State Global Campus.

Officers with the Riley County Police Department filed a report for vehicle burglary in the 400 block of S. 4th St. on February 27, 2017 at approximately 1:45 PM. Officers listed Miles Sprague, 47, of Manhattan, as the victim when he reported that an unknown suspect entered his his vehicle and took approximately $300.00 in currency, as well as 2 cell phones and a tablet. Updated: Tuesday, 3:29 p.m. K-State athletic director John Currie has been hired by the University of Tennessee to the same position, KSU confirmed early Tuesday afternoon. Currie, 45, graduated with a master’s degree in sports management from Tennessee in 2003. He previously worked in the Vols athletic department as assistant athletic director under former Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton. TOPEKA — Moody, a ratings agency, is criticizing Gov. Sam Brownback’s veto of tax legislation, saying it represents a “credit negative” to Kansas. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports Brownback vetoed a bill that would’ve raised personal income taxes and reinstated a third tax bracket Wednesday. Brownback called it a “punitive tax increase on working Kansans.” The Legislature attempted to override the veto hours later. However, the veto fell short in the Senate. More changes to the traffic control at the West Anderson project are expected this week. New striping will be installed beginning Tuesday, Feb. 28, and the public will begin fully using the temporary roads in place at the intersection of Anderson Avenue, Kimball Avenue and Scenic Drive later this week. Stop signs will be in place to control the flow of traffic. This traffic control will be in place for approximately 3 months to facilitate the demolition of the current intersection and the construction of a roundabout. A Manhattan man was sentenced to 18 years in the Department of Corrections for failing to provide complete information when he submitted to the Kansas Offender Registration Act. Jase Stanton, 29, was in the Riley County District Courthouse Monday afternoon. He was also scheduled to be sentenced for aggravated criminal sodomy. In June 2015, Riley County police officers said two victims, a 19-year-old man and a 22-year-old man, were involved in unwanted sexual activity with a man they had met at a Manhattan bar who invited them to his house where it was promised there would be women. A 24 year-old from Manhattan was arrested by Riley County Police this past weekend.  Friday evening,  Yiping Zhu, 24, reported she had been battered at her residence in the 1600 block of Hillcrest by an acquaintance.  Upon investigation,  Hongyu Shi, 24, was arrested for aggravated battery. Shi is currently confined on $20,000 bond. ### A 46 year-old woman reported her vehicle missing Friday morning. A racially-motivated shooting at an Olathe bar last week hit close to home for many Kansans, but Manhattan Mayor Usha Reddi has used her own experiences to offer a message of condolences and hope to the Manhattan community. Equifest in Topeka, managed by Ann White of Pottawatomie County, drew large crowds throughout the weekend with a sell-out. Morgans, Friesians,  Gypsies, Paints, Draft Horses, Minis, donkeys and mules were just some of the breeds present at the Kansas Expocentre.  A variety of clinics, lectures, speakers, dances and dance lessons, ferrier contests, and trade shows were all part of the festivities . Vendors were present with a variety of wares including jewelry, toys, clothing, and of course horse-related equipment.
