Tires on several vehicles in Manhattan’s downtown area were found slashed early Thursday morning. Riley County Police acting Public Information Officer Lt. Greg Steere told KMAN Thursday a significant amount of vehicles were impacted, with incidents beginning in the 400 block of Poyntz Avenue near the Wareham and Harry’s. The investigation revealed 19 total vehicles were involved, all of which had tires which were punctured by unknown means. At the time of this report officers were still in the process of identifying all of the victims associated with this incident. The total damage to all of the vehicles was estimated…

TOPEKA — The former owner of the Heartland Park Topeka racetrack is suing the city of Topeka for more than $4 million. Jayhawk Racing LLC and Heartland Park LLC allege in the lawsuit that the city breached its contract by not honoring an agreement to purchase the park and assume the plaintiffs’ debt. They also claim the city charged for storm water services for more than 12 years but didn’t ever provide the services. Butcher-Hoofard was arrested while at the Riley County Police Department on June 2nd, 2016 at approximately 3:02 PM. SHAWNEE — School administrators across Kansas are trying to figure out how a recent state Supreme Court ruling will affect their ability to provide critical summer programs and prepare for the fall semester that begins in August. A Westmoreland man, named Alvin Matzke, told KMAN he’s decided to run for Pottawatomie County Commissioner after settling down and retiring from farming. Although Matzke says his intentions were at one point lighthearted, he says he feels like local government officials will need to make up for what is to come after the presidential election coming soon. When asked about his qualifications, he indicated his blue-collar experience has led him to want to drive local change.Matzke told KMAN says one of his biggest platforms is cutting local spending in many areas, explaining that he believes government spending can be greatly reduced.…
Levi Smith is a student at K-State pursuing his graduate degree, and shortly before the election filing deadline of noon Wednesday, he indicated his plans to pursue a position as a Riley County Commissioner. Smith moved here from Greensburg, and says he gained a lot of public service experience “at the most real level,” working on a FEMA community planning board in the wake of the tornado that destroyed the city in 2007. Smith, who got his Bachelor’s at K-State, says he’s sticking around Manhattan as he completes his Master’s degree. Smith says the big issues he’d like to address…
K-State’s full non-conference schedule for men’s basketball has been released. The marquee games are all away from Bramlage Coliseum. The Wildcats will play in the Barclays Center Classic in Brooklyn along with Maryland, Boston College and Richmond, plus road games at Tennessee and St. Louis and netural-site games against Colorado State and Washington State.
