Riley County officials are looking for residents to serve on various advisory committees. County Clerk Rich Vargo said Monday, in a press release, that open positions include the Riley County Council on Aging, Law Enforcement Agency Board, Riley County Planning Board as well as others. County officials encourage interested residents to check the Riley County website to see a full list of openings. According to statistics from the Flint Hills Association of Realtors, there were 117 October home sales in the Manhattan-Junction City combined statistical area, which includes Geary, Pottawatomie and Riley Counties. That’s an 18% decrease from the 143 home sales in September and a 12% decrease from the 133 sales in October 223. There were 113 sales of existing homes, a decrease of 8.9% from the 124 in October 2023. The average sale price of existing homes was $272,481, a 5.5% drop from the October 2023 price of $258,384. The average sale price of an existing home was $256,328 in September.…

A man was taken a local hospital following a stabbing incident in the 1100 block of Moro Street in Manhattan on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred just before 1:45 p.m. when a 20-year-old male reported he was stabbed by an unknown subject. The man was treated initially at Irwin Army Medical Center and has been listed as the victim in this case. Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.

Two females were victims of an aggravated assault over the weekend in Riley County. Officers filed the report on Saturday afternoon just before 2:30 p.m. in the 2100 block of Halls Landing when two females aged 17 and 18 had a gun pointed at them by a known subject. Officers are listing the two women as the victims in this case. No further information was released on the matter at this time.

A Wisconsin man finds himself behind bars following his arrest on Sunday evening in Riley County. Officers arrested 21-year-old Keonta Cook Jr. of Milwaukee just after 7 p.m. Sunday at the Riley County Jail on a Riley County District Court warrant on a charge of aggravated battery. Bond has been set at $20,000 in this case and Cook remains confined in the jail at the time of this report.

Officers filed a report of larceny in Manhattan on November 15, 2024 at approximately 11:49 AM.  Officers listed a 31-year-old male as the victim when it was reported a known suspect sold the victim’s tools without his permission. Total loss associated with this report is approximately $5,000. A 22-year-old woman was taken to a local hospital following an injury accident on Saturday evening in Manhattan. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported an SUV driven by Emma Jackson, of Manhattan, was southbound on Manhattan Avenue near Bertrand Street, where it rear-ended a 2018 Chevy Cruze driven by Zola Christensen, of Wamego. EMS transported a passenger in the Chevy, Cheyanne Bryant, of Manhattan, to Via Christi. Bryant was the only injured person, and everyone was properly restrained according to the KHP.
