An accident on K-99 left two people injured and blocked traffic for several hours Sunday afternoon. Patrick Arrow, 21, and Kaytlan Tanner, 20, both of Louisville, were taken to the hospital following the accident reported shortly before 2:30 p.m. about a mile south of Wamego. Arrow was taken to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City and Tanner was taken to Stormont Vail in Topeka. Tanner was a passenger in Arrow’s vehicle. LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) After almost 50 years together, the portraits of two scientist-brothers have been removed from a soon-to-be razed University of Kansas residence hall that is named after them. The Lawrence Journal-World that Elmer and Burton McCollum’s portraits will now overlook students studying their respective sciences on West Campus. Elmer McCollum discovered vitamins A and D, while Burton McCollum was a seismology pioneer. Celebrated area artist Daniel MacMorris painted the portraits in 1966. Riley County Firefighters responded to a mobile home fire at 428 Ninth Street in Ogden shortly after 5:30 a.m. Sunday. County Fire Chief Pat Collins tells KMAN the mobile home in the Maplewind Mobile Home Park was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. The home had been abandoned several years ago, with the last known owner having the last name of Moss. Damage is estimated at $8,000-$10,000 to an occupied mobile home, car, and outbuilding next door.  The Manhattan Fire Department and Fort Riley Firefighters assisted. Tens of thousands turned out for Wamego’s top-rated 4th of July fireworks show Saturday night at the Recreation Complex. Accompanied by a soundtrack aired on KMAN’s sister station Hot Country B 104.7 the show capped off a full day of activities which included an all-day car show and carnival in Wamego City Park and the annual parade. It was the 17th fireworks show in Wamego accompanying the annual celebration which has spanned more than 140 years.
