A Manhattan man faces aggravated burglary and sexual battery charges after his arrest early Thursday morning. Riley County Police arrested Eliseo Arreola, 23, while in the 1200 block of Bertrand Street. Police indicate Arreola reportedly entered a home that did not belong to him and kissed a female on the lips while inside. Bond was set at $12,000.

A Geary County first degree murder/child abuse jury trial resumes Thursday with the jury recessing at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The group will continue deliberations in the Christopher Lyman trial Thursday morning. Closing arguments were heard Wednesday. Lyman did not take the stand. The charges against Lyman involve an eight-month-old child who died at a Kansas City Hospital. The child was first brought to the Geary Community Hospital emergency room in September of 2013, then transported by helicopter to Children’s Mercy Hospital. The trial began last week.
A large crowd showed up for Wednesday night’s special USD 383 School Board meeting, and at least one school official still has a job after the board overturned an earlier decision to not renew his contract. Director of elementary education Lucas Shivers will retain his position, and received a standing ovation when offered a contract for the next year.
