The Flint Hills Discovery Center Foundation named the recipient of their fourth annual Friend of the Flint Hills Award on Sunday. The award goes to Jim and Cathy Hoy, who the Discovery Center describes as longtime defenders of the Flint Hills. Jim Hoy has worked as a consultant for the Discovery Center in the past, and the FHDC describes Jim and Cathy as “personally dedicated to the conservation and preservation of the Flint Hills”. The purpose of the FDHC Foundation is to advance the mission of the center by soliciting and managing donations, facilitating named gift opportunities and recognizing donors. Many of us are familiar with Coach Bill Snyder and his role on a football field, but the well-known Kansas State University Coach has also been recognized in another way nationally. Snyder recently was awarded the 2015 Excellence in Mentoring Award by MENTOR, which is the National Mentoring Partnership. A press release was issued Wednesday morning regarding an arrest made in Junction City. The Junction City-Geary County Drug Operations Group conducted a traffic stop just before 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, while in the 500 block of West 12th Street in Junction City.  The driver was talking on his cell phone (which is against city ordinance), his driver’s license was suspended and had a confirmed Geary County District Court warrant for his arrest.  An odor of marijuana also resulted in a search of the vehicle.  Officers found marijuana packages for sale within the vehicle.  This search also took place within…

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) A man accused of alcohol-related violations in connection with the fatal fall of an Arizona State University student from Manhattan in 2014 has been sentenced. Maricopa County Superior Court officials say Matthew Farberov was sentenced Tuesday to nine months of probation and community service for a misdemeanor count of soliciting an adult for alcohol. The 21-year-old Farberov was among two people charged following Naomi McClendon’s death in March 2014. KMAN reported a traffic stop in that location at about 9:30 p.m., with an occupant reportedly fleeing on foot.
