The Senate has approved Governor Brownback’s cabinet nominees, Doctor Susan Mosier as Secretary of Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Mosier served as as a State Representative representing part of the Manhattan area in 2011. She also had an opthalmology practice in Manhattan for several years. The construction on North Manhattan Avenue is progressing, and two changes to traffic flow will occur this month. Beginning Thursday, April 9 Keen Street will be closed for construction. Access to the Blue Hills neighborhood from North Manhattan Avenue will be via Blue Hills Road. Additionally, Research Park Drive will reopen to traffic Thursday, April 16. Riley County Police issued a press release Wednesday morning regarding a few arrests, which were made in the Manhattan/Riley County area regarding ongoing investigations into the illegal distribution of narcotics. Detectives in the 800 block of Pottawatomie Avenue, in Manhattan, made two arrests on Tuesday evening, which resulted in the seizure of over an ounce of crack cocaine valued at around $3,000. Linnie Sanders (32) of Manhattan was arrested for 22 different charges, including six counts of sale of crack cocaine, seven counts of conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine, and endangering a child. The Wamego City Commission heard the annual hospital report at Tuesday’s meeting, Wamego Hospital Association President Lanny Bosse, reported the Wamego Health Center is in good shape. He said since the indebtedness is paid off, they are able to build up reserves. Commissioner Bill Ditto asked the amount of those reserves, which Bosse reported a total of $800,000 at the end of the year. In addition, Bosse reported three major projects completed last year.
