Riley County’s efforts in replacing their 911 radio system, which began a decade ago, continue to move forward-as an emergency radio consultant visited the county commission during their meeting on Monday. Tusa Consulting is credited with providing radio communications services to different departments and organizations throughout the nation.  They recently developed an $80 million radio system for the Kansas City metro area.  It included five counties, two states, 24 dispatch centers and 25,000 users. A Manhattan woman, who previously owned a daycare center, is facing charges of aggravated battery and endangering a child under 18 after an incident that occurred in April of last year. Lesa Heiman appeared in Riley County District Court Monday afternoon, alongside her attorney, Nicholas Heiman. Prosecuting State Attorney, Bethany Fields informed Chief Judge Meryl Wilson that a plea agreement had been reached.  Heiman plead no contest to both of the charges against her. A Manhattan man asked for a reduction in bond during a Riley County Court appearance Monday afternoon, telling the judge he’s “done a lot of thinking” during his time in jail and is “really ready to give up drugs.” Trey Campbell,  who faces charges in connection with an alleged incident involving stolen marijuana last July,  appeared in court alongside his attorney Jillian Waesche, who also told Judge David Stutzman that Campbell is expecting his first child soon, and wants to be with the mother who reportedly has medical problems. In an effort to increase emergency preparedness in the area, Emergency Management Director for Pottawatomie County Chris Trudo presented at the County Commissioner meeting on Monday, April 6. Commission Chairman Pat Weixelman said Trudo reported on the county’s Hazardous Mitigation Plan, a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) initiative to help minimize damages in an emergency situation. “There are 23 different areas within the county that are involved in this plan,” Weixelman said. “Everybody’s on board for the up-coming time frame.” Weixelman added that Trudo also reported on statistics for county fires this past month, which were relatively high due to dry and…
