TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) A House committee authorized issuing up to $60 million in bonds to renovate Kansas State University’s College of Architecture. The project approved Tuesday is the only capital improvement project sought by six state universities to be funded in the House budget proposal. Rep. Mark Hutton of Wichita says he made the motion to include the project in the budget because Kansas State waited for years while major projects were funded at other universities. The bonds would be issued in fiscal year 2016, with the first $3.7 million payment in 2017 coming from the state Educational Building Fund.

At a special meeting of the USD 378 board of education held on Monday night, the board voted to offer an interim superintendent position to Nancy Meyer.  Contingent upon contract approval, Meyer will begin her duties in mid-April and will serve through June 2016. Meyer has a Liberal Arts Degree from Highland Community College and a bachelors degree in education from Emporia State University. A Manhattan man charged with involuntary manslaughter will appear in Riley County District Court next month to face his preliminary hearing. Ryan Routson was arrested for several charges including involuntary manslaughter, aggravated battery by DUI, and possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.  This was following an incident where Routson failed to stop at a stop sign on Tuttle Terrace back in May.  As a result of this, according to an affidavit released regarding the case, a stillborn baby was born to an unidentified victim on the night of the accident. A Manhattan man facing 24 different charges appeared in Riley County District Court via web cam Tuesday afternoon. Jeremy Spaur was arrested earlier this month, along with Nicole Holt, for different offenses including vehicle burglary and criminal damage to property. Spaur appeared alongside his attorney-Larry McRell.  McRell explained to the court he has yet to receive any discovery on the case, so he wanted to set the matter for another status hearing.  Spaur will appear on March 24th at 1 p.m. for a discovery status hearing.
