After five hours of deliberation Wednesday, a Pottawatomie County jury has convicted 22-year-old McKaine Farr of distribution of a controlled substance causing death. The conviction stems from a March 2023 incident at a Manhattan hotel involving Thomas Jackson DeLoach, of Manhattan, who died. This was Farr’s second conviction on the same charge. In December, he was convicted in the September 2021 death of Jayson Ebert, of Wamego. He’s currently serving more than 13 years on that conviction, following a January sentencing hearing. Farr is scheduled to be sentenced on his newest conviction on April 18. This is a developing story.…

Officers responded to the report of an injury accident at the intersection of Blue River Hills Road and Tuttle Creek BLVD in Manhattan on March 26, 2024, at approximately 8:38 AM. When officers arrived on the scene they found four vehicles were involved in the accident. Preliminary reports indicate weather conditions heavily factored into the collision. Pottawatomie County Attorney Sherri Schuck gave her opening statement Monday in the second trial of 22-year-old McKaine Farr, of Wamego, for distribution of a controlled substance causing death. Farr is accused of distributing fentanyl to Thomas Jackson DeLoach, of Manhattan, in March 2023, causing his death. Farr was convicted of the same charge in December for the September 2021 death of Jayson Ebert, of Wamego. DeLoach died of an apparent drug overdose at the Manhattan Quality Inn hotel on East Highway 24. Schuck told jurors they would be hearing a lot during the trial on “aiding and abetting” — issues…
Riley County has certified the results of the recent presidential preference primary. The commission, acting as the Board of County Canvassers on Monday, unanimously approved the provisional ballots and certified the election results. A total of 2,624 Riley County residents (about 7%) took part in the primary, the state’s first since 1992. During the meeting, elections officials read results for each precinct, as well as the totals for each voting method. All told 2,179 ballots were cast using the DS300 voting machines, 392 were advance mail-in ballots. and 38 were provisional. Of the 38 provisional, staff said 19 were counted…

Officers listed Redline Autoplaza as the victim when it was reported 47-year-old Deborah Heiser of Colorado Springs, Colorado purchased a 2012 Chrystler 300 for $21,711 on January 24, 2024, without secured financing. By Tim Weideman, Manhattan Mercury Riley County Commissioners approved a request Monday from Community Corrections to continue using as-needed on-call juvenile intake staff in 2025. The department has already been bringing in an additional person to cover on-call needs on Fridays for Juvenile Intake and Assessment Services (JIAS). That person responds to law enforcement requests for assistance when a juvenile is taken into custody.
