TOPEKA — A man has been sentenced to life in prison plus 50 years for the shooting death of a Kansas woman just hours after her wedding. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports 31-year-old Awnterio Dwan Lowery was sentenced Thursday for the death of 42-year-old Tiffany Davenport-Ray. Prosecutors say in May 2014 Lowery and two other men shot at the Topeka woman and her husband, Melvin Ray, as they were driving to a post-reception gathering. Prosecutors say Melvin Ray, who was driving, returned fire and his wife was hit by in the crossfire. Lowery was convicted in July of premeditated first-degree murder…

An Ogden man was arrested by the Riley County Police Department Thursday morning at approximately 10:30 a.m. for the offenses of aggravated battery, criminal restraint and criminal damage to property. 24-year-old Taylor Morris was arrested while in the city limits of Ogden after an incident between he and a 21-year-old female who was known to him. Morris was give a bond of $7,000 and at the time of this report he was no longer confined in the Riley County Jail. The pre-trial for murder suspect Christopher Arand, 36, was held in Pottawatomie County District Court on Thursday afternoon. After sorting out minor details in court, Judge Jeff Elder pushed to proceed with trial October 5th-9th, starting at 8:30 A.M. Riley County commissioners opened bids for the University Park sewer rehabilitation project Thursday morning. The project will be a multi-million dollar endeavor, though 45 percent of it will be paid by an USDA Rural Development Grant. The low bid was from Utility Solutions, LLC, of Basehor for $2.56 million, while the high bid was $4.32 million from Tri-Star Utilities of Independence.
