Over 26,000 people from around the world are in Washington D.C. for the 2015 AUSA Annual Meeting and Exposition including delegates from Manhattan, Fort Riley, and Junction City chapter. The 3-day conference began on Monday and wraps up today. AUSA – which stands for Association of the U.S. Army – hosts the professional development event yearly. This year’s highlights included many different seminars, and a keynote presentation by John McHugh, Secretary of the Army. McHugh delivered an impassioned speech on the future of the Army. LEONARDVILLE — A large crowd greeted First District Congressman Tim Huelskamp of Kansas at a Town Hall in Leonardville Tuesday afternoon. Topics ranged from veterans’ affairs to who the new Speaker of the House might be and Planned Parenthood. Huelskamp referred to previous speaker John Boehner who he says consolidated power, and limited amendments and debate, which he says harmed our institution and policy making process. Riley County Commission Chairman Ron Wells announced on KMAN’s “In Focus” Tuesday morning that he will seek another term. A Fort Riley man facing charges of 2nd-degree murder and attempted aggravated battery pleaded not guilty to both Tuesday morning during his arraignment at the Riley County District Courthouse. Tierre Wall, 26, allegedly shot 27-year-old Casey Lindley in the forehead during a confrontation at the intersection of Skyway Drive and Kansas Highway 114 near Ogden during the early morning hours on March 10. Wall maintains he acted in self defense after Lindley, his fiance and his two friends got out of their vehicle and approached Wall’s at the intersection. The USD 320 Board of Education heard about problems with elementary school issues. At Monday’s meeting, Operations Director Larry Hannan highlighted the issues with Central Elementary’s problems because of the wet spring. He emphasized these issues are with the most recent construction 5 years ago. The spring rains caused the foundation dirt on the East side of the building to wash away, which caused the waterproof geotextile to fail, causing water to seep into the gym causing damage to the floor.
