Appointees announced Thursday for the Kansas Board of Regents and other state posts include a couple of Manhattan leaders. Dennis Mullin who is the Chair and CEO of Steel Pipe and Supply was approved by the state Senate Oversite Committee with favorable recommendation for the Board of Regents. Mullin and the other two Board of Regents appointees must now be approved by a majority vote of the Kansas Senate. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Kansas lawmakers have created a committee to review school standards and funding. The K-12 Student Success Interim Study Committee created Wednesday will have 15 members from the House and Senate. The Kansas City Star reports (http://bit.ly/1Uu6xMG ) the committee will study education goals and “the best funding mechanism” for Kansas schools. House Speaker Ray Merrick, a Stilwell Republican, proposed the committee. It comes after the state replaced a per-pupil funding formula with block grants for the next two years while the state devises a new school financing formula. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) The Kansas Supreme Court is launching an initiative to centralize and standardize the electronic filing and storage of documents across the state. A steering committee for the “eCourt” project was having its first meeting Thursday in Topeka. The Supreme Court established the committee in April. The project is being financed with court fees, with at least $4.1 million set aside over the next four years. Some district courts introduced electronic filing in 2009, and more than half of the state’s 31 judicial districts allow attorneys and court employees to file and store documents electronically. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt is asking a state judge to put on hold his order striking down a policy imposed on the courts to protect the judicial branch’s budget. Schmidt filed the request Thursday with Shawnee County District Judge Larry Hendricks. Hendricks on Wednesday struck down a 2014 law having district court judges instead of the Kansas Supreme Court pick chief judges in each of the state’s 31 judicial districts. Updated 11 a.m. 9-4-15 Names have been released in the Pottawatomie County stolen vehicle case KMAN told you about early Thursday morning.  Dalton Flax, 19, and James Shirley, 21, both of Wichita, were arrested for theft and obstruction. Flax faces an additional charge of driving while suspended. Bond has been set at $50,000 each. The two were taken into custody following a stolen vehicle case reported in the Oak View area of St. George at about 4:44 a.m. Thursday. Two motions were presented at a motions hearing Wednesday morning in Riley County District Court for a  Manhattan man facing charges which include involuntary manslaughter while DUI. The State has submitted a motion to admit statements by the defendant Ryan Routson. The Defense is requesting suppression of KBI lab results from Routson’s blood test. Evidence was presented regarding the defendant’s statements and an argument was made regarding the blood test. Judge David Stutzman took the matters under advisement and will prepare an order at an unspecified date. Routson also faces charges of aggravated battery while DUI along with unlawful possession of methamphetamine.…

A Black Hawk had to make what’s being called a precautionary landing Wednesday night. U-S Army Public Affairs reports that at approximately 9:15 p.m. a UH-60 Black Hawk made a precautionary landing in a field about 5 miles south of Fort Riley. None of the four crew members were injured. The Black Hawk crew is from the 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division and was on a training mission. The incident is under investigation.
