Manhattan, Kan. – Officers filed a report of theft by deception on October 7, 2024, at approximately 1:43 PM in Manhattan. Officers listed a 20-year-old male as the victim when it was reported a known subject deceived the victim into sending approximately $6,000 to him over the course of a week.

By Annie Wolfe/Times of Pott County Pottawatomie county commissioners on Monday refused to help Wamego maintain its burn pile. Last week, Wamego City Manager Stacie Eichem requested financial help from the county to keep the city burn pile operating “as is”. Commissioner Greg Riat was absent due to illness at that meeting, so the issue was tabled until this week when all county commissioners were present. By Emma Loura/Manhattan Mercury A new fire station north of Manhattan could break ground as early as next week if all goes smoothly, officials said. Riley County officials on Monday unanimously approved the special use and platting of 0.3 acres of land into a single lot for a new rural fire station. The site is at 7412 Redbud Drive along Tuttle Creek Lake. County planner Bob Isaac said fire District 1, Station 110 will serve the University Park area. Officers filed a report of burglary on October 5, 2024, at approximately 2:36 AM in the 2000 block of Shirley Lane.  Officers listed a 28-year-old female and a 35-year-old-male as the victims when it was reported their residence was broken into by an unknown subject who stole a handgun with case, a tote bag, and a wedding ring. A Manhattan teen is being held on $150,000 bond after being arrested Sunday for the distribution of drugs within a school zone. 18-year-old Terriundis Merrill Toliver Jr. was arrested around 1 a.m. Sunday at the RCPD substation in Aggievile on 2 charges of distributing opioids within 1,000 feet of a school, one charge of using a communication facility during a felony drug violation, and another added charge of distributing over 1,000 doses. Toliver was still being held in the Riley County Jail as of Sunday.
