Riley County commissioners were updated on the housing market Thursday morning. County Appraiser Greg McHenry reported that the market continues to be steady and slightly ahead of last year’s pace. So far McHenry’s office has recorded 1,002 real estate sales in 2015 through Sept. 28. The median sale price was $188,000 while the average sale price was $202,881. McHenry’s median residential sales ratio — which compares the midpoint of county values divided by actual sales prices — is currently  97 percent. “The significant part of that is when we set our values on Jan. 1, we were closer to the 100 percent mark,”…

The Kansas  State University Police Department responded to an unusual call Tuesday evening. At around 7 p.m. K-State police were called to a residence hall regarding a report of a nude male who was causing a disturbance. Upon arrival, the officers detained the suspect, who was later transported to Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. K-State Police are continuing their investigation.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) One of two northeast Kansas twin brothers has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for his role in a multistate marijuana-trafficking operation. The Lawrence Journal-World (http://bit.ly/1jA1SNY ) reports 33-year-old Los Rovell Dahda was sentenced Wednesday and fined almost $17 million. Dahda and his brother Roosevelt Rico Dahda, both of Lawrence, were found guilty last year of conspiracy. They were among 43 people accused in Kansas and California in connection with the trafficking ring. Authorities say the ring brought 8,000 pounds of marijuana, much of it from California, into Lawrence and the Kansas City area…

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Donations are being sought for a middle school counselor who underwent a quadruple amputation after a shooting at a south-central Kansas store. The Wichita Eagle (http://bit.ly/1KVdQru ) reports that about $28,000 has been raised so far for Julie Dombo. The 61-year-old was wounded in August during a robbery at a Derby AT&T store. Because of oxygen deprivation to her limbs while in the hospital, her hands and legs required amputation in early September. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A preliminary hearing is beginning for a man charged in the death of a woman who was raped and set on fire at a Wichita park. The Wichita Eagle (http://bit.ly/1WA65Qb ) reports that the hearing that starts Thursday in Sedgwick County District Court will determine whether there is sufficient evidence for 27-year-old Cornell McNeal to stand trial. Eric Hosmer hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the top of the 10th inning, and the Royals beat the Chicago White Sox 5-3 on Wednesday night to clinch home-field advantage in an AL Division Series.
