Several area cases are to be heard before the Kansas Court of Appeals next week. One involves former Fort Riley soldier,  George Ferenz, 32,who was convicted in Riley County in September of 2013 on two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy and two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child less than 14 years old. Ferenz currently is being held at Lansing and his earliest possible release date is September of 2038. The Wamego City Commission approved Oz Museum improvements at Tuesday’s meeting. Columbian Theatre Executive Director Clint Stueve, Columbian Foundation Board members Bunny McCloud and Betsy Riblet addressed the Commissioners, requesting permission to proceed with fundraising efforts to improve the facade of the Oz Museum. According to City Manager Merl Page, their request and proposal falls outside the zoning and signage regulations, so the City rather than the Planning Commission can grant permission. LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) A state panel consisting of the Kansas governor and legislative leaders has authorized an additional $231 million in bonds to help pay for the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility under construction near Manhattan.The State Finance Council’s authorization Tuesday is contingent on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security agreeing that Kansas won’t be asked to pay any more for the estimated $1.15 billion facility. Kansas lawmakers initially authorized $105 million in bonds when the state was awarded the project in 2009. The Manhattan high girls lost their first game of the season 72-63. Caroline Ballard led the way for MHS with 16 points and Amara Ehie pitched in with 14 points. Tatyana Legette poured in 30 points for Seaman as the Lady Vikings connected on 54% from the field including 6-9 from behind the arc.
