Federal prosecutors Wednesday filed an involuntary manslaughter charge against a Riley County man in connection with a shooting death at Fort Riley. Juwan Jackson, 18 who lives on the Fort Riley base, is charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter. A criminal complaint alleges that on Sept. 11th, Jackson handled a firearm in a reckless manner, resulting in the shooting death of Kenyon Givens, 16, who also lived on Fort Riley. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A man is in critical condition after being shot by a sheriff’s deputy in Wichita. According to Sedgwick County sheriff’s Lt. Lin Dehning, a deputy was investigating someone who seemed suspicious Tuesday afternoon when the deputy fired shots and the man was struck in the abdomen. The man was transported to a hospital. Dehning said someone called authorities about a suspicious person around 4:20 p.m. Dehning says the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is still trying to determine whether someone in the area of the incident made the report or if the deputy investigated on his own. OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (AP) A man has been found dead outside a bar in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park. KSHB-TV reports that police said they responded early Wednesday to an armed disturbance. The victim was found in the parking lot of The Roxy. The man’s name and his cause of death weren’t immediately released. Authorities are seeking a suspect who left in a large red truck. Anyone with information is urged to call authorities.
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Court documents are offering a glimpse at the early impact of the gay marriage ruling in Kansas. The latest filing Tuesday from state officials comes in the lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the Kansas ban on same-sex marriages. A federal judge has ruled the state’s ban is unconstitutional in the wake of the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized such unions nationwide. A Manhattan woman was life-flighted following a vehicle/pedestrian accident early Tuesday afternoon. Alysa Hodges, 20, was first taken to Via Christi Hospital via ambulance and then life-flighted to an unknown location. Major Don Stubbings, the K-State Police Assistant Director for Support Services and Public Information Officer, indicates Hodges was in stable condition. The accident occurred at Denison and Hunting Avenues at about 12:15 Tuesday afternoon. Hodges was walking at a crosswalk in that location when she was struck by a vehicle driven by Brittany Orr, 22, of Manhattan. Orr was issued a citation for failure to yield in a pedestrian…
