“Your input matters to me.”  That was one of the opening statements made by U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, of Manhattan, during the 2015 Kansas State Association of Letter Carriers State Convention, which was held at the Four Points by Sheraton here in Manhattan. Former Kansas State Wide Receiver Tyler Lockett will go from being a Wildcat to a Seahawk. The two-time defending NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks drafted Lockett with the 69th pick in the third round of the National Football League draft Friday evening in Chicago. Lockett is the first K-State player selected this year and extends the Wildcats draft streak to 22 years, which is the longest active streak in the Big 12 Conference.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) The Kansas Supreme Court has upheld the first-degree murder conviction of a man who gunned down his wife in front of her children. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that the court rejected 28-year-old Kishen Woods’ mental health claim. He said he shouldn’t have been found competent to stand trial because he has schizophrenia. Antonia Woods-Cratic died in November 2011. She was in the process of leaving her husband. Woods argued that the court-ordered competency evaluation was flawed. A Kansas Department of Corrections inmate serving time for first degree murder and rape convictions in Geary County is up for July public comment sessions. Oliver Smith, 53, was convicted in connection with the rape and murder cases in 1988. Public comment sessions will be held July 15th at the Derby Police and Courts Building on North Baltimore, July 17th at the Municipal Court House on Southeast Eighth Street in Topeka, and July 27th at City Hall in Kansas City. Between 2011 and 2014, the attorney general’s office received multiple complaints from Kansas consumers who had done business with Bartholomew “Bud” Jude Daley, Fort Worth, Texas; Mike Gorman, Fort Worth, Texas; and Patrick Dougherty, Houston; all of whom were doing business as Pave All Asphalt Paving.
