The Anthony Nichols Trial wrapped up Friday afternoon with a verdict. Riley County jurors found Nichols guilty of attempted murder. For closing arguments, the state listed the evidence pointing Nichols to the scene of the crime, although the defense claimed it still wasn’t enough to pinpoint Nichols to the trailer in which John Burroughs was killed between the 6th and 7th of September in 2013. One possiblity being considered was Nichols’ oath of silence for his gang, preventing law enforcement from learning about the true extent to which Burroughs’ convicted killer, James McKenith had gone. There’s a lot of dirt being moved at the NBAF site these days. Kansas State University’s NBAF Liaison Ron Trewyn tells KMAN the 1.25 billion dollar facility will be 580,000 square feet, which means a lot of dirt and rock removal. By fall it’s estimated trucks will be hauling dirt and rock off the site every six minutes. Trewyn says in the fall there will be even more activity, which will have a crescendo effect and continue to grow and grow. The 1st Infantry Division bid farewell to four outgoing generals and one colonel during Thursday’s Victory Honors Ceremony held on the post’s Cavalry Parade Field. At the same time, the Big Red One welcomed one incoming general to compliment what was described by the Divison’s commander as a “period of great transition and turbulence”. The only witness connecting Anthony Nichol’s to the murder of John Burroughs, took the stand in Riley County Court Thursday morning. 51-year-old Christina Love testified that Nichols showed up to her Manhattan home on the day of the murder, asking her to ride with him to Burrough’s house. Love believed the two were going to sell crack cocaine. Upon arriving at the residence in the Red Bud estates, Love noted that Nichols parked his car around the corner and the pair walked between trailers to Burrough’s residence where Nichols had Love announce that she was at the door, before having…

Riley County commissioners approved a resolution for the 2016 budget year Thursday morning. The annual Flush Picnic drew more than a thousand people to the small Pottawatomie County town for its 80th year of the popular event. The Anthony Nichols trial continued Wednesday afternoon in Riley County District Court with several more testimonies from law enforcement connected with the 2013 murder case. Among testimonies given was Alan Alan Riniker , a crime scene investigator at the time of the incident with Riley County Police. Riniker, who said he’s investigated over 100 homicides throughout his career, told the jury his observations of the scene where John Burroughs was killed.
