DODGE CITY, Kan. (AP) — A former staffer for U.S. Rep. Tim Huelskamp has been sentenced to 12 months in prison in a Kansas child- sex case. Matthew Pennell, a Manhattan High graduate and one-time candidate for the Riley County USD 378 school board was sentenced Friday in Ford County after admitting to two of the 17 child sexual exploitation counts he was charged with in March. A Manhattan man was arrested in the 1000 block of Yuma at approximately 4:20 a.m. on Saturday morning. Anthony Rex Shehan, 44, was arrested by officers with the Riley County Police Department for battery and aggravated battery with a weapon. His bond was set at $10,000.

Residents who are looking to cool off from the hot weather this weekend will not be able to use the swimming pool at City Park on Saturday and Sunday. The pool was also closed to the general public on Friday for a swim meet being held there through the weekend.
