IMAX and Carmike Cinemas have announced plans to expand their revenue sharing agreement to three new cities, including Manhattan. The popular viewing experience will be added to existing theaters in Missoula and Billings, Montana, while the IMAX website states the third theater system will be “added to a new construction project in Manhattan.” While not confirmed, rumors have been circulating for several months that a new movie theater would move into the old Sears location in Manhattan Town Center. After two years leading the “demon brigade,” Col. Matthew R. Lewis relinquished command of the 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division. In a change of command ceremony at Fort Riley’s Calvary Parade Field, Lewis thanked his family and wife Anne, for being by his side and reflected on the brigade’s accomplishments. Taking his place is Col. John M. Cyrulik, former director of evaluation and standardization at Fort Rucker, Alabama. Lewis is slated to become the deputy commander of the Combat Readiness Center at Fort Rucker.

Emergency personnel responded to the 11000 block of Rimrock Road in Manhattan on Tuesday at approximately 1:40 a.m. for a report of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. When responding officers arrived they found Donald Pickering, 65, of Manhattan was deceased. Pickering contacted the Riley County Police Department Communications Center Dispatch prior to his death, however, he did not express a desire to harm himself at that time. Police do not suspect foul play based on information and evidence collected at the scene. The Wamego City Commission approved a salary adjustment for all positions at Tuesday’s meeting. City Manager Merl Page said they periodically performed salary surveys with a core group of comparable cities competitive wages. Page said the overall analysis show the need for a salary adjustment for all positions, excluding the City Manager. Page asked the Commission to approve $20,000 for a mid-year salary adjustment for the current pay period. Approval was given by a vote of 5 to 0.
