KANSAS CITY, Mo.(AP)– Johnny Cueto threw a four-hitter in his Kansas City home debut, leading the Royals past the Detroit Tigers 4-0 on Monday night. WAMEGO — Dr. Milton Wolf, a Leawood radiologist who challenged U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts last year, confronted U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran during one of Moran’s “listening stops” this morning. At issue were reports of X-Rays posted on social media and the subsequent divulgence of an investigation of Wolf by the Kansas Board of Healing Arts prior to the 2014 primary election. Wolf told the group in Wamego he had been exonerated. “They couldn’t provide a complaint against me or a single patient with a complaint against me.” He also thanked Wamego for standing by him after the allegations were made.…

Riley County District Court Judge Meryl Wilson sentenced 24-year-old Lamont Cox of Manhattan to 155 months in prison Monday afternoon for counts of rape and aggravated criminal sodomy of a 5-year-old female who is the daughter of his fiance. The crime occurred during March of this year and Cox’s bond was set at $500,000. Cox also had a son born on Aug. 2 to the mother of the victim. Cox’s defense asked for a furlough to see his son, but that was denied. A no-contact rule was lifted, though, concerning his fiance and son, should they visit him in prison.…

A Manhattan man is in custody and an unidentified woman was hospitalized following an early Sunday morning incident at State Lake 2 in rural Manhattan in Pottawatomie County. The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Dispatcher received a 911 call shortly before 1:30 a.m. Sunday of an individual being struck by a vehicle at State Lake 2, on State Lake Road. Beginning this week, lane changes will occur on Kimball Avenue for both eastbound and westbound traffic near the Denison Avenue intersection. Eastbound traffic Both lanes of traffic will be maintained but shifted to the south to allow for a westbound truck turn lane into the NBAF construction site. This will be a temporary shift for the large number of trucks accessing the NBAF site during the next few months. Riley County Commissioners tabled a request to extend the Native Stone Scenic Byway Monday morning. During a June meeting members of the Native Stone Scenic Byway Committee and representatives from the Kansas Department of Transportation presented the concept to commissioners of extending the byway into Riley County along K-18 East to the intersection with K-177 and thence south along K-177 to the county line. County Planning and Special Projects Director Monty Wedel said there were little regulations to the extension, except for the fact billboards would be prohibited due to federal statute. Dealing with solid waste is a big job–and Pottawatomie County’s Sanitarian/Landfill Supervisor is preparing a long range plan on the way the county deals with such waste. Scott Schwinn addressed County Commissioners Monday and told the group he is working on a five year plan to present to the state, which would include household waste, recycled, C& D (construction and demolition), compost, residential waste, and the way waste is transferred.
