The Manhattan Fire Department was called out overnight to a fire alarm at K-State’s Weber Hall, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page. Crews were called out just after 5 a.m. to 1424 Claflin Road, arriving to smoke observed in the structure and later upgrading the alarm. The cause of the smoke was found to be a malfunction with the meat smoker.

A Manhattan tradition since 1992, the Flint Hills Veterans Day Parade is the largest in the region. The Flint Hills Veterans Coalition organizes the event, which is completely volunteer-run. “It’s focused around spreading patriotism to the next generation, which is what the founders of the Flint Hills Veterans Coalition intended from this parade,” said Chuck Sexton, a volunteer. A Junction City couple died Monday in a crash on Interstate 70 in Wabaunsee County. The Kansas Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 11:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 330, just east of the McFarland Road exit. Authorities say a Jeep Liberty driven by 63-year-old Cheryl Martin drifted into the median, struck a culvert and rolled. A semi truck, driven by 53-year-old Robert Arnold, of Hays was entering the interstate from an entrance ramp when it struck the Jeep. By Emma Loura A Leawood man was sentenced Monday at Riley County District Court to five years and four months in the Kansas Department of Corrections for two counts of aggravated battery. Dylan Zeller, 19, pleaded no contest to two counts of aggravated battery. He was originally on trial for rape and aggravated sexual battery.
