One would think the gubernatorial candidates in Tuesday’s debate were from two different states– as Democratic Candidate Paul Davis and incumbent Governor Sam Brownback presented very different views about the fiscal status of Kansas. The contrasting statements were made at the very beginning of the discussion, with Brownback telling the Kansas Association of Broadcasters, which was hosting the debate in Wichita, that things are improving. He talked about record employment rates, with the most recent 4.8 percent unemployment rate. And he pointed to the poverty index going down, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. An Ogden man no longer faces an attempted murder charge, but Johnny Cossey, 38, now is set for a November third arraignment on aggravated battery and robbery charges. A preliminary hearing was held for Cossey in Riley County District court Tuesday morning, but prior to that the state had amended the complaint, with the charge of attempted first degree murder amended to aggravated battery. Cossey’s charges now include two counts of aggravated robbery, aggravated battery, and aggravated burglary. Cossey was bound over following the preliminary hearing. With the new winery coming to the Wildcat Creek area, it can be assumed that increased traffic will travel Wildcat Creek Road.  For this reason, Public Works Director, Leon Hobson wanted to discuss some concerns with the road, during Monday’s Riley County Commission meeting. Hobson requested doing a traffic study this year, and then doing another one next year when the winery is up and running.  Commissioner, Dave Lewis suggested doing the study during the wedding season, and recommended the early June time frame in particular. Beginning November fifth, 11 body-worn cameras will be part of the Riley County Police Department’s equipment–and a public affairs video will be unveiled in the next week to further explain how the cameras will be used. Captain Tim Hegarty told Riley County Law Board members about plans for the cameras Monday, with a sneak preview of the video provided. Hegarty was asked about the peripheral angle of the devices, and said it closely replicates the human eye. The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release Monday involving an incident that took place on Sunday evening just before 9 p.m. An unwanted subject was reported in a residence in Emmett, but the subject left the residence prior to the deputy arriving on scene.  According to reports, the individual was driving a white van. The deputy was able to locate the white van, and stopped the vehicle for a traffic infraction.  After making contact with the driver, the driver drove away. A low speed chase ensued, which went through the town of Emmett, and then continued south on Highway…
