The IRS asserts it can’t produce emails from seven officials connected to the tea party investigation because of computer crashes, including the emails from Lois Lerner, the former IRS official at the center of the investigation who has invoked her Fifth Amendment right at least nine times to avoid answering lawmakers’ questions.

An unexploded ordnance was unearthed near the intersection of Jackson Avenue and Hampton Place on Custer Hill June 20. Since the ordnance could not be identified, Fort Riley officials took extra precaution and temporarily evacuated about 60 residences in the area. Glen Hawkins from Riley has announced his intentions to run for the position of the 64th District Representative vacated by Vern Swanson. Hawkins decided to run after someone stressed the need for a conservative republican to represent the district. He believes he has “solid conservative credentials” and told KMAN he looks to raise concerns in Topeka about education and energy in Kansas. The unemployment rate in the Manhattan metropolitan area went up a little this past month. That’s according to numbers just released by the Kansas Department of Labor, which indicates a 4.3 percent rate for May, compared to 4.1 percent in April. That’s still way below last May’s numbers of 5.4 percent though. The Manhattan metro area includes Riley, Pottawatomie, and Geary Counties. On New Year’s Day a St. Mary’s resident was arrested for the death of a Rossville man, and on Friday morning in Pottawatomie County court the prosecution and defense squared off on whether or not portions of evidence should be allowed in the upcoming jury trial. Pablo Gonzalez is charged with second degree homicide and aggravated assault after the body of Rossville resident Levi Bishop was found deceased in the passenger seat of his vehicle on January 1st. The defense questioned admissibility of statements given by Gonzalez to the police on the morning of the incident, and argued one of the mitigating factors was Gonzalez’s blood alcohol…
