TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) A former Kansas legislator has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for defrauding a bank to help fund his political activities. Former Republican state Rep. Trent LeDoux was sentenced Monday. LeDoux pleaded guilty last May and was ordered to pay about $461,000 in restitution to the bank under a deal with federal prosecutors. LeDoux allegedly obtained three bank loans to buy cattle, but failed to make payments and deposited $28,000 from the loans into his campaign account in late 2011 and 2012. He said after the sentencing hearing that he is truly sorry for his actions.…

“The burning is about done for the year”.  This statement was made by Riley County Fire Chief, Pat Collins during Monday’s county commission meeting. Collins reported that his crews did not have any calls in reference to pasture burning on Saturday or Sunday, which hasn’t happened in several weeks. An initial appearance has now been scheduled for a 20-year-old Topeka man who was indicted last week with trying to carry out a suicide attack at Fort Riley. Defendant John T. Booker, Jr., is set for a  9:30 a.m. appearance Tuesday in the federal courthouse in Kansas City, Kan. A General Order regarding body-worn cameras was approved by the Riley County Law Enforcement Agency at its Law Board meeting Monday. Riley County Police Director Brad Schoen reminded the group there are two vastly different opinions about how much should be recorded by law enforcement officers, from those who believe cops should record everything they do to the opposite or more civil libertarian view.
