Manhattan city workers on Tuesday closed the area around the intersection of Stratton Circle and Sunset Avenue for repairs. Only local traffic will be allowed into the section, with through traffic diverting at Grandview Drive to the south and Anderson Avenue to the north. City officials expect work on the intersection — which is on Sunset Avenue between Anderson and Poyntz avenues — to take about a week, depending on the weather, with plans for the project to continue at least through Friday. Lydia Pyle, 35, of Ogden, was arrested on September 2, 2024, at approximately 8:32 AM in the 300 block of Stallion Circle. Pyle was arrested on a Riley County District Court warrant for failure to appear. The original charge in this matter is for aggravated battery. Total bond was set at $10,000. Pyle was not confined at the time of this report. Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers. A young woman from the Wichita area was rushed to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka after someone attacked her in Aggieville early Friday in Manhattan. RCPD Public Information Officer Ashley Tokoi said police are aware of the social media messages about the attack that have been circulating, but she said it includes some misinformation. Tokoi added that the department does not yet have solid information about what happened. The Wamego Police Department recently announced they recovered a couple of stolen dinosaur statues. Around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, the Wamego Police Department took to social media asking for assistance in finding a couple of Sinclair gas station dinosaurs that were stolen overnight on Aug. 31. A Manhattan man is being held in the Riley County Jail after being arrested Saturday morning for assaulting police officers. 31-year-old Camron Todd Leupold was arrested in the 2200 block of Buckingham around 2:30 a.m. on two counts of assaulting a law enforcement officer, and one count each of battery and interference with a law enforcement officer. As of Saturday, Leupold was still confined in the RCJ on a total bond of $10,000. Reports show Leupold was arrested last November for violating a protection order, domestic battery and criminal damage to property.

Health officials are seeing COVID-19 cases rising in Manhattan. Ascension Via Christi president Bob Copple told The Mercury that over the last week, the hospital has had one to five outpatients in the emergency department each day and three to five inpatients.
