A cash management discussion quickly took a different turn during Thursday’s Riley County Commission meeting. Commissioners had previously requested that County Treasurer, Eileen King provide them with an education about cash management. King shared details about balances, long term investments, deposits, electronic fund transfers, outstanding checks and ACH deposits. A Junction City man will serve an additional 13 months for an attempted computer crime, meaning a total sentence of more than five years with 52 months ordered for a probation violation. Phillip Neu was sentenced earlier this week in Geary County District court, and was sent to the Department of Corrections.   Neu entered a plea in mid-March in the attempted computer crime case, which involved a gift card scheme with Dillon’s in Junction City.   Also in Geary County District Court, Jason Nazario is set for a June sixth preliminary hearing in a rape case. The wife of a current State Representative from Clay Center has announced her intentions to run for the position he’s vacating. Susie Swanson, whose husband Vern has served as 64th District Representative in the Kansas House for seven years, plans to run in the August Republican primary.   Swanson is the third Republican candidate vying for the position, with Ben Wilson and Kathy Martin announcing their intentions recently.   Swanson describes herself as an observer of the political process for many years and especially the past few years. MANHATTAN — David and Ellie Everitt, Marco Island, Florida, have made a gift of $3 million to Kansas State University — $2 million will go to the School of Leadership Studies to establish the David and Ellie Everitt Endowment for the Leading Change Institutes, and $1 million will benefit the new K-State Welcome Center.   The Leading Change Institutes is a new initiative to begin in summer 2015. The Riley County Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a burglary and criminal damage to property investigation reported earlier this week.   19 year old Dillon Short, 19, of Manhattan was taken into custody on several possible charges including burglary to a dwelling, felony theft, obstruction of the legal process, misdemeanor theft, and making a false writing. Short was arrested in the 8800 block of Green Valley Drive at about 1:40 Wednesday afternoon, and was later released from custody on $10,000.   RCPD filed a report Sunday after Everett Adkins reported losing possession of several hunting supplies, a rifle, and a…

Kansas State University commencement ceremonies will be Saturday, May 10, at Kansas State University Salina, and Friday, May 16, and Saturday, May 17, on the Manhattan campus. The class of 2014 is the 147th to graduate from the university since the first class graduated in 1867. To be awarded will be more than 2,550 bachelor’s degrees; 676 master’s degrees; 118 doctoral degrees; 100 Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees; and nearly 30 associate degrees.
