After a gloomy sales tax reporting period last month for Manhattan, the numbers are up a little this time around. City Finance Director Bernie Hayen says the April reports, which actually reflect two months prior or February, are “inching up.” While big box stores were slightly down compared to April of last year, grocery sales were strong–“carrying the month,” according to Hayen. Retail sectors had generally mixed numbers. The amount collected in the April numbers is nearly $806,747, up from last year’s $779,560.
