Officers responded to a report of an injury crash in the 9600 block of Anderson Ave., in Riley on Sept. 28, 2025 at approximately 8:39 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found a 2005 GMC Sierra 3500 driven by Carson Avery, 35, of Riley, had lost control after a dust cloud and wound up in a culvert. Nine people were arrested in Riley County between Saturday and early Sunday morning, according to the Riley County Police Department. Among those arrested was 36-year-old Emoni Marquise Ruffins of Junction City, charged with criminal discharge of a firearm after an incident in the 1100 block of Moro Street. He remains confined on a $5,000 bond. Among the calls, officers responded to two injury crashes Friday evening — one at Westwood Road and Fort Riley Boulevard and another in the 200 block of Fort Riley Boulevard. By Emma Loura Be Able, a Manhattan nonprofit, raised about $105,000 with its Upside Down Auction Thursday night, surpassing its goal of $90,000. The Utopia Room of St. Thomas More’s parish was full of volunteers, Be Able neighbors and donors. This was the auction’s second year. “It’s a reverse-style auction,” said Scott Voos, the executive director of Be Able. “In most non-profit fundraising methods, people go there with the auction opportunity. City officials plan to locate utilities on Anderson Avenue this weekend, resulting in an overnight closure Sunday night to through traffic. Public works will close the roadway from Connecticut Avenue to College Heights Road/Timberlane Drive from 7 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday. If needed, a second overnight closure will take place at 7 p.m. Monday and continue until 6 a.m. Tuesday. Riley County Police are alerting residents to a phone scam in which callers falsely claim to be Sergeant Dunn of the department. Police said several citizens recently reported receiving calls telling them they needed to turn themselves in to law enforcement over serious legal matters. Authorities emphasized that RCPD will never request payment over the phone. Residents are urged to verify any suspicious calls through trusted sources before sharing personal information.
