Officers listed 22-year-old male as the victim when it was reported his 2003 Chevy Silverado was stolen by an unknown subject overnight. Manhattan High’s football two-way star JJ Dunnigan will compete in the Under Armour Next All-America game on Jan. 2 and announce his college commitment, he announced on social media Thursday. Dunnigan, a 6-foot-2 junior defensive back and wide receiver for the Indians, has college offers from Kansas State, Nebraska, Stanford, Illinois, Kansas, Iowa, Wisconsin and more. During his junior campaign this fall, Dunnigan had 28 catches for 556 yards and five passing touchdowns. He also ran four times for 40 yards. By Tim Everson Kansas State football landed its first player out of the transfer portal this offseason Thursday night when former Oklahoma cornerback Jayden Rowe announced his commitment to the Wildcats on social media. The 6-foot-2, 221 pound Tulsa native will have two to three years of eligibility after spending three years in Norman under former Wildcat player and coach Brent Venables. Rowe redshirted in 2021 and played in three games in 2022 before missing the majority of the 2023 season because of an injury sustained in the season opener versus Arkansas State. As previously reported, a passerby found the then-6-week-old puppies near the restaurant on Bluemont Avenue in Manhattan when the temperatures started to drop on the night of Dec. 1. The passerby kept them safe until turning them over to the city’s animal control department. By Emma Loura Riley County’s budget and planning committee on Monday presented a policy for incentives intended to entice developers build affordable housing. The committee members proposed Reinvestment Housing Incentive District policy. The RHID captures the increase in property taxes created by the development for up to 25 years. Brittany Phillips, county budget and finance officer, presented an overview of the RHID policy at Thursday’s county commission meeting. A local organization supporting LGBTQ+ youth has received city funding after two prior attempts failed. Manhattan city commissioners on Nov. 19 voted to include True Colors Flint Hills among the agencies receiving money set aside to pay for alcohol and drug abuse prevention and treatment programs in 2025, and organization officials on social media said Dec. 6 they had received the first half of the payout. Commissioners overrode the community support funds advisory board’s recommendation to fund True Colors the two previous years. Kansas Tourism last week presented property owner Clay Graber with a $25,000 check to go toward the revitalization project. Graber estimates the total renovation cost to be $150,000. The Wabaunsee County District No. 1 Primary School at 38130 Elm St. in Wamego was built of limestone in 1879 and saw the education of hundreds of school children. Graber owns and operates Our Little Schoolhouse LLC and has been leading the restoration project since September. Deshaun Durham, 24, was to spend 92 months in the Hutchinson Correctional Facility for a first-time cannabis defense, but now he walked free Friday morning. Gov. Laura Kelly on Nov. 7 overturned the Kansas Prison Review Board’s rejection of Durham’s clemency application, allowing him to return home for the holidays. “Today is a big victory in the barbaric and senseless war on a scientifically-proven medicinal plant, cannabis,” Durham said in a written statement.
