(AP) — The Kansas secretary of state’s office received a letter Tuesday containing what Secretary Scott Schwab called “a suspicious substance.” Officials evacuated the building for the rest of the day. Schwab’s office serves as the state’s top elections authority, and the incident occurred less than a week after election offices in at least five states states received threatening mail. The Belvue Bridge sustained more damage this past weekend after a drunk driver struck a guardrail on the bridge. At Monday’s Pottawatomie County Commission meeting, Assistant Public Works Administrator Lance Forgy noted he received a call late Friday night from the Wabaunsee County roads supervisor about an abandoned truck on the side of the bridge. Forgy says the driver was arrested later that night in Paxico.
