Last week’s Amber Alert involving a Springfield, Missouri girl reminded many of us that such a national  emergency notification system exists. Riley County Police Director Brad Schoen and Lt. The theft of a horse led to a variety of charges against a Hope, Kansas man Saturday afternoon. Kansas State University Police indicate Monte Johnson, 50, apparently tried to steal a horse during the K-State rodeo this past weekend, but the horse was recovered and Johnson now faces several charges.   As previously reported Johnson was taken into custody in the 1400 block of North Manhattan and charged with felony theft, battery, battery against a law enforcement officer, and obstructing legal process. HIs bond was set at six-thousand dollars.

The cleaning and videoing of the University Park sewer lines has been completed, and BG consultants have reviewed the results.  Project Manager at BG Consultants, Sam Johnson presented an overview of what they found, during Monday’s Riley County Commission meeting. Johnson said they found 298 broken pipe conditions and 19 holes, among other problems.  He estimates 172 feet of sewer main point repairs will need to take place, as well as an additional 2,000 feet of open trench sewer main replacements. A five-run sixth inning gave UC Davis the lead for good after trailing K-State by as many as three runs, and the Aggies rallied past the Cats 10-5 on Saturday afternoon at Louis Guisto Field in Moraga, CA.  UC Davis hit for the cycle in their breakout inning to lead 9-5, with a Spencer Henderson triple knocking in the first run, then a Tino Lipson RBI double, followed by a Spencer Henderson run-scoring single, and a two-run homer by Cameron Olson finished the inning.  Nick Lynch added his second homer of the day to complete the scoring in the bottom…

After their opposition rally broke up in the late afternoon, in a pattern that has been seen in past demonstrations about 1,000 stragglers erected barricades of trash and other debris and threw rocks and bottles at police and National Guardsmen. Christal Caldwell scored 21 points and three other players added 10 apiece as 13th-ranked West Virginia used a first half run to cruise past Kansas State 61-40 in Women’s Basketball action Saturday evening at Bramlage Coliseum.
