City officials will proceed with a roughly $75,000 professional services agreement with Kansas City-based architecture firm WSKF, Inc. to design a new training ground facility for the Manhattan Fire Department. Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop late this afternoon as a cold front moves through the region. According to the National Weather Service, storms are forecast to form between 4 and 6 p.m. and track south, exiting the area by around 9 p.m. Hazards include large hail up to golf ball size and damaging winds of 60 to 70 mph. A Manhattan man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly assaulting multiple law enforcement officers over a two-day span. Police filed a report of two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and one count of attempted battery around 3:50 p.m. Sept. 2 in the 1800 block of College Avenue. Riley County Police are investigating a forgery and identity theft case that left a Manhattan woman out thousands of dollars. Officers filed the report Tuesday evening in the 2700 block of Bent Tree Drive. Police said a 74-year-old woman reported that an unknown suspect stole a check and altered it to redirect payment. The total loss is estimated at $3,488.62. Authorities ask anyone with information to contact RCPD or Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Riley County Police arrested a Manhattan man Tuesday evening in connection with a robbery and battery case first reported earlier this summer. Officers took 29-year-old Andre Chislum into custody around 7:20 p.m. on Sept. 2 in the 1300 block of Flint Hills Place. Police said the arrest stems from a July report of aggravated robbery and aggravated battery. Riley County Police arrested a Fort Riley man early Saturday morning after he was accused of brandishing a firearm during a disturbance in Aggieville. Officers filed a report of aggravated assault and criminal threat at approximately 1:43 a.m. in the 1100 block of Moro Street. Police said 24-year-old Enrique Morales was antagonizing a group of individuals and was found with a gun. Morales was arrested at 1:45 a.m. on charges of aggravated assault and criminal threat. Officers say an 18-year-old man reported his Cartier watch was stolen during an attempted purchase. The loss is valued at $12,000. Officers say a 35-year-old man reported that a suspect broke into his storage unit and stole approximately $1,300 worth of items.
