A fire destroyed the Big Brothers Big Sisters building Tuesday morning. The Manhattan Fire Department responded to the fire at 519 Pierre St., a house that serves as the organization’s offices, shortly after 8:15 a.m. Flames and heavy smoke were coming out many windows of the building when officials arrived. Deputy fire chief Ryan Almes said no one was in the building at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries. He did not yet have information on how the fire started. A Manhattan man was arrested Monday evening in connection with an incident reported last summer. Riley County Police say 20-year-old Taren Lhuillier was taken into custody around 6:55 p.m. Jan. 26 in the 100 block of 6th Street. The arrest stems from a report originally filed in July 2025. Lhuillier faces charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated battery. He was issued a total bond of $100,000 and is no longer confined in the Riley County Jail. A Topeka woman was arrested early Tuesday morning following a traffic stop in Manhattan. Riley County Police say officers filed the report around 1:44 a.m. Jan. 27, 2026, in the 2300 block of Tuttle Creek Boulevard. The case involved allegations of driving under the influence, driving while suspended and operating a vehicle without a required ignition interlock device. Police arrested Lisa Sullivan, 44, of Topeka, at approximately 2:44 a.m. on all listed charges. A single-vehicle accident in Geary County Sunday sent a Fort Riley woman to the hospital. According to the Geary County Sheriff’s department, depuites responded to a report of an accident in the 75 hundred block of Old Highway 77 at 4:45 Sunday afternoon. According to reports, Katrena Bowers of Fort Riley was eastbound in her 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee when the vehicle ran off the road way to the north due to icy road conditions and rolled onto it’s side. Bowers was transported to Irwin Hospital for evaluation with undisclosed injuries.
