Officers filed a report for criminal possession of a weapon in the 1400 block of Colorado St. in Manhattan on June 13, 2025, at approximately 9:59 a.m. Donte Long, 24, of Manhattan was arrested for criminal possession of a weapon. Storms are expected over the next 24 hours for the region as multiple rounds of severe weather are forecast to impact the area beginning overnight Monday into Tuesday morning. The first wave of storms is expected during the overnight and early morning hours Tuesday, with a second, potentially more intense round arriving by Tuesday evening and lasting into the night. Five individuals were arrested by the Riley County Police Department between the evening of June 14 and the early morning of June 15, according to the latest media arrest report. Jaylen Zlane Cruse, 22, of Manhattan, was arrested around 12:15 a.m. on June 15 at Tubby’s Sports Bar on Moro Street for criminal trespass. Cruse was booked with a bond set at $500. Robert Taylor Jordan Gibbons, 35, of Ogden, was taken into custody at 11:21 p.m. on June 14 at a residence on Riley Avenue. Officers responded to a variety of calls, including two non-injury accidents, a burglary at a Northview Drive residence, and a past rape report on Leavenworth Street. Two people were hospitalized Friday afternoon, following a crash on Interstate 70 near Junction City. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol a Ford pickup rear-ended a Nissan truck in the westbound lanes of a construction zone. The impact caused the Nissan to spin into the eastbound lanes, where it collided with a U-Haul truck. The driver and a passenger in the Nissan, both from Colorado, were transported to a local hospital with complaints of pain. All other occupants involved in the crash were not injured. A thunderstorm system is continuing to move eastward across central and southern Kansas Saturday morning, bringing with it the potential for gusty winds and small hail. While the strongest storms are expected to stay south of I-35, areas along and south of I-70 may still experience some active weather. The current storm complex is expected to move out of the region by late morning, but forecasters note that isolated storm redevelopment is possible later this afternoon. At 4:45 p.m. on Friday, the Manhattan Fire Department was dispatched to 101 Bluemont Ave., Walmart, for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found people evacuating and light smoke showing at the doors. Employees were extinguishing the fire as crews arrived at the middle of the store where the fire occurred.  Crews ensured that extinguishment was complete by overhauling the area and taking smoldering material outside. A total of 16 firefighters responded on 6 fire apparatus. Walmart is still closed at the time of this release while fire crews evacuate smoke from inside the building. No injuries…
