Police released more details Tuesday about a man arrested Friday after a high-speed chase. Prior to the chase, police said, 23-year-old Andrew Franklin of Manhattan went on a crime spree that involved stealing from two stores and taking a gun and car from a woman’s home. On Thursday at 11:24 p.m. officers responded to a report of a business alarm activation at Dick’s Sporting Goods in the 401 Third Place in Manhattan. Three minors were responsible for a warehouse fire in Manhattan Saturday afternoon, according to Riley County Police Department officials. Police arrested two 15-year-olds — Jakeem Coopwood Jr. and Jordan Ehret — as well as an unnamed 12-year old after a witness reported seeing them running away from a fire at a large warehouse under construction in the 1200 block of Kretschmer Drive. The two teenagers remained in custody as of Tuesday, while officers released the 12-year-old to their parents. The full story can be read at The Mercury.

Kathy Crawford was looking forward to selling her wares at the Buttons and Bows Arts and Crafts Show for the first time this year, but it wasn’t to be, Her friend, Susan Brunkow, ended up operating Crawford’s booth on Saturday, taking over after Crawford died of cancer three weeks ago. Brunkow met Crawford at the Cancer Companions support group made up of Christian women who gather to assist one another as they battle cancer. By Emma Loura Crowds waved their American flags Monday morning along Poyntz Avenue in honor of those who have served in the military. An honor guard led the annual Veterans Day Parade, followed by Boy Scout Troop 74 and the Fort Riley cavalry unit. A pair of local teens were arrested Sunday afternoon after they broke into Dunkin Donuts and attempted to set the store on fire. RCPD officers arrested two 15-year-olds Sunday around 3 p.m. on charges of Aggravated arson, criminal trespass, burglary, and child misconduct. The two boys were not held in the Riley County Jail at the time of this report.
