JUNCTION CITY, Kan. (AP) The body of a 65-year-old Salina man who drowned at Milford Lake has been recovered after a four-day search. The Geary County Sheriff says a fisherman saw the body of Stephen Edwards after it surfaced Wednesday. The sheriff’s office says Edwards drowned Sunday when he went into the water to retrieve a fishing pole and didn’t resurface. He was fishing with a grandson and friend at the time. Now former K-State quarterback Daniel Sams will in fact continue his college career in his home state of Louisiana.  Sams told GoPowercat.com that he will transfer to McNeese State, an FCS power in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  He reportedly was told by the Cowboy coaches that he’ll have the chance to compete for the starting quarterback job over the next two seasons.  McNeese State went 10-3 in 2013 and made their third FCS playoff appearance in the last six years. Sams could make his debut two hours from Manhattan as the Cowboys open the season at Nebraska on Saturday, September 6th.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Chris Carter hit two home runs, George Springer set a rookie club record for homers in a month and the Houston Astros beat the Kansas City Royals 9-3 Wednesday for their fifth straight win. The Astros, with the worst record in the AL at 22-32, won three times in Kansas City for their first sweep of the season. Houston’s winning streak is its longest since a six-game string that ended last June 3. Three area girls will play in the Kansas Basketball Coaches’ All-Star games next month. The trio all were named first team all-state following their senior seasons, Wamego’s Kaylee Page, Manhattan High’s Darby Price, and Riley County’s Madison Vargo. The KBCA all-star games will be Saturday, June 28th on the campus of Kansas Wesleyan in Salina.  The girls contest tips off at 6:00pm, followed by the boys at 8:00.

Wamego welcomed the Honor Flight home. A large contingent of family and friends gathered to welcome the 25 Veterans and 25 Wamego Honor Society student sponsors of this year’s Honor Flight late Wednesday night. As earlier reported on KMAN, each student was paired with a veteran for the trip to Washington, D.C. to visit the different war memorials. According to deputy city manger Jason Hilgers the vetting of the final four candidates for the position of Manhattan assistant city manager continued on Wednesday.  The candidates have bested over 50 other applicants so far in the selection process. Candidates Jacob Wood, Kiel Mangus, Jamie Shockley, and Cody Sims were present at an informal meet and greet held in City Hall on Wednesday evening.  The candidates mingled, and engaged in discussions with senior city staff, citizens, city commissioners, and Mayor Wynn Butler.
