K-State Athletics generates more than $486 million in annual economic activity for the Manhattan community and the state of Kansas according to a economic impact study performed by consulting firm Tripp Umbach and the athletics department. Tripp Umbach, who also recently performed a similar study with the university, utilized data from 2022-23 to conduct the study, which revealed that more than 3,850 jobs resulted from the department’s impact. By Emma Loura The Kansas Board of Regents on Wednesday approved the next step in and addition to the Bioprocessing and Industrial Value Added Products Innovation Center at K-State, a project estimated to cost between $26.5 million and $30 million. Regents approved a program statement for the facility, which belongs to the Department of Grain Science and Industry. There, scientists work to develop technology to produce bio-based products from grains and other plants. Officials on Wednesday told the Kansas Board of Regents the university’s first-time freshman retention rate was up to 85.5% as of fall 2023.
