For the third straight season, the K-State volleyball team will square off with a Pac-12 school. The Cats will open the season at the University of Green Bay tournament, and Arizona was announced as the fourth team in the field on Tuesday. K-State and Arizona will clash at 4:30pm on Saturday, August 30th to conclude the tournament. The two teams haven’t met since 1987, and Arizona won both previous meetings against K-State. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) James Shields cooled down hot-hitting Colorado over seven sharp innings, Lorenzo Cain and Salvador Perez both homered and the Kansas City Royals beat the Rockies 5-1 on Tuesday night. The only run Shields allowed came on an RBI single by Justin Morneau in the fourth inning. Alma resident and K-State alumnus, Keen Umbehr recently announced his decision to run for Kansas Governor. The Libertarian candidate recently spoke to KMAN and shared his story. His father worked in oil fields overseas, so Umbehr grew up in parts of Africa and Asia. The Manhattan City Commission is considering a change to the current application process for Benefit Districts. Under the change, Deputy City Manager, Jason Hilgers said during Tuesday’s Work Session that the City would require property developers to submit two new forms, one certifying all tax payments to Manhattan are current, and the other disclosing the tax status of all companies that a developer has a 20 percent or greater interest in. “All it’s really doing is alerting the governing body in the event a developer is delinquent on a previous or other project,” Hilgers said. “And then it adds to…

Kansas Governor, Sam Brownback announced Tuesday his recent appointments to boards and commissions, one of which is from Manhattan. Linda Weis has been appointed to serve a four year term on the Kansas Supreme Court Nominating Commission, to fulfill the unexpired term of Don Dahl.  Weis earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Kansas and her master’s degree at the University of Denver.
