Update: noon Tuesday Additional arrests have been made in connection to subjects who were previously arrested for a string of vehicle burglaries that have occurred in the city limits of Manhattan in recent weeks. Riley County Police Department’s Investigations Division throughout the course of routine follow-up interviews and investigation were made aware of two additional suspects in additional crimes unrelated to the previously mentioned vehicle burglaries. Damian Nicholson, 21, of Fort Rile and Lee Wallingford, 19, of Fort Riley were both arrested yesterday, October 28, 2013, while in Fort Riley, Kansas by investigators. K-State got big contributions from two newcomers, including a double-double from Leticia Romero, enroute to an 85-64 exhibition victory over Washburn at Bramlage Coliseum on Monday night. Romero, the former standout on the Spanish national team, scored 25 points and added 12 rebounds.  Riley County product Kelly Thomson came off the bench and hit 4 of 7 three pointers on her way to a 14 point night.  “It was an awesome experience”, said the former Falcon, “just to be out there”.   A Wabaunsee County woman has pleaded guilty to embezzling from the Bio-Security Research Institute at Kansas State University, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said Monday. Linda Kay Miller, 51, Alma, Kan., pleaded guilty to three counts of interstate transportation of fraudulently altered securities. In her plea, she admitted the crimes took place while she worked as an office manager for the institute from August 2007 to January 2013. The institute receives grant money from the federal government to provide infectious disease research programs that address threats to plant, animal and human health. MJ Massanet has been named the MIAA Hitter of the week. The 5-10 sophomore outside hitter is a native of Manhattan where she competed at Manhattan High School. Massanet had three double doubles as University Nebraska-Kearney went 3-0 at home last week. She averaged 4.56 kills and 4 digs per set and hit .326. She had 15 kills and 10 digs against Missouri Western before adding 15 kills and 14 digs against Southwest Baptist. Against Missouri Southern she hit .429 with 11 kills and 12 digs.
