K-State senior safety Ty Zimmerman was named as one of 15 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award on Monday, which is given to the top defensive back in college football. Zimmerman joins fellow Big 12 seniors Aaron Colvin of Oklahoma and Jason Verrett of TCU among the nominees. Three accidents were reported in Geary County Sunday, one involving a fatality. A 35-year-old Manhattan woman identified as Dale Colleen Williams, died in an accident on I-70, eight miles south of Manhattan, at about 8:45 Sunday evening. The Kansas Highway patrol reports a 1998 Ford Taurus driven by Randy Jost, 57, of Ottawa was westbound on I-70, when the vehicle struck a disabled vehicle in the lane of travel. A Salina woman accused of being part of an online scam has an upcoming court hearing. The Salina Journal reports the 51-year-old woman is accused of scamming sellers on Craigslist.com out of more than $5,400 by sending fake money orders for purchases. She’s scheduled for a hearing Monday in Saline County court. Police Lt. Jim Norton says an investigation turned up at least eight victims who advertised items for sale on Craigslist. Authorities believe the woman would send the seller a fake MoneyGrams and then make calls seeking repayment by claiming an assistant sent the wrong one. The victims wired…
A student taking part in a pre-game skit before K-State’s Homecoming Football game against West Virginia was injured when he was tackled hard by Willie the Wildcat on the 50-yard line. The individual was standing in the middle of the field in West Virginia attire when Willie, as is the custom, tackled him. According to at least two sources, the student’s head hit the turf hard when he was tackled and he was unresponsive after the skit for a short time.
