Riley County Health Department Director, Brenda Nickel presented two proposals during Thursday’s county commission meeting involving department positions. The first was a request to increase the current Public Health Emergency Response Coordinator position from part time to a full time position.  Jason Orr is currently in the position and works from around 30 to a maximum of 40 hours every week. The commission unanimously approved this request. A 29-year-old Manhattan man faces several charges following an incident at 14th and Fremont Streets early Thursday morning.   Cruz Hernandez’s  arrest stemmed from a traffic stop for a traffic violation and resulted in Hernandez being confined by Riley County Police. Hernandez also had a warrant from an incident in July of 2013 listing criminal damage to property as the offense, with an attached bond of $2,000.   He was also arrested for the offenses of endangering a child, driving under the influence, and obstructing the legal process. Last month, USD 383 submitted it’s Kingdergarten Preschool Program continuation funding applications for the 2014-2015 to the Kansas Department of Education. Executive Director of Special Education/Special Services, Debora Howser presented the item, which proposed the creation of a Director of Early Education Programs position.
