Wamego Police responded to a water rescue Sunday afternoon at the Kansas River, just off of Pine Street. A news release from the police department indicated a nine year old female was holding onto a branch about 20 feet into the waterway. A combined effort involving several police officers and another individual were  able to get the child to safety. The investigation indicated the nine year old was sitting next to the Kansas River with her 17 year old sister about a mile west of where she was rescued when she fell in. The Kansas City Royals were able to bounce back after losing game one Friday night to the Mets by winning the final two games of the series. Yesterday, Ervin Santana was solid and the bats did enough in a 6-2 victory to close out the road trip winning eight of nine. HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) Drivers have been urged to stay off Hutchinson streets after more than 4 inches of rain deluged the town and caused widespread flooding. The Hutchinson News reports even large military-type vehicles couldn’t get through some streets Sunday morning. Several cars flooded and stalled out in floodwaters early Sunday and blocked local streets. Several basements also were flooded, including one with up to a foot of water. The National Weather Service described the flooding as big. Rainfall amounts ranged from 3.8 inches to 4.8 inches. Rain continued through the morning, adding to the flooding woes.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A groundswell of school pride after the Wichita Shockers made it into the Final Four of this year’s NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament has resulted in a record year of donations for the university. The Wichita Eagle reports the WSU Foundation’s fiscal year 2013 ended with a three-year record of $22.5 million in total giving. It also led to record contributions to a variety of campus organizations. Updated 11:50 a.m. Monday An injury accident NewsRadio 1350 KMAN first told you about over the weekend on 69th and Anderson Avenue leaves one injured. Details were released Monday by Riley County Police. The driver has been identified as 73 year old Barbara Lanning of the 7200 block of Anderson Avenue. Police say Lanning was traveling westbound on Anderson when she lost control of her 2004 Chrysler Sebring causing the vehicle to roll on its side. Lanning was transported to Mercy Regional Health Center for minor wrist pains. No citations were issued as a result of the accident. #### Updated…

Over 1,250 area residents visited the Sunset Zoo on Saturday for Water Safari and Kids’ Free Day. Children received free admission all day long and guests enjoyed Water Safari activities throughout the afternoon.
