Manhattan residents needing to enroll their children for the new school year can do so at the Manhattan High School west campus until 7 p.m. Wednesday. The district’s central enrollment Wednesday allowed parents to enroll all of their children at one time, no matter what grade they will be entering. While at central enrollment parents could also get their children’s vaccination done, pay book fees, get parking permits and order year books. If parents can not make central enrollment, all school offices will be open to register their child Monday.
Former Arkansas associate head coach Todd Butler stepped in for the legendary Gene Stephenson as head baseball coach at Wichita State last month. He’s wasted little time recruiting Kansas kids, as KMAN has learned Manhattan High senior-to-be Bret Fehr has committed to the Shocker program. Fehr led off the Indian lineup during last season’s run to the 6A state tournament in Lawrence. After his senior campaign, Fehr will make his debut with the Shockers in the 2015 season.

One child has died and dozens have been injured after a burst water main released a torrent of water over a residential area in Campo Grande, near Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday. The burst pipeline has been shut down, but no word on the cause.
An injury accident involving a semi and several cows was reported in Clay County Tuesday night. Matthew Salter, 31, of Missouri Valley, Iowa was taken to the Clay County Medical Center following the accident on K-15, 17 miles south of Clay Center. The Kansas Highway patrol reports Salter was driving a 1998 Peterbilt semi southbound on K-15 when the semi struck four cows, ending up in an east ditch. The accident was reported at 10:40 Tuesday night. Seat belt use is unknown.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Mike Moustakas homered twice and drove in four runs to back another strong start from Ervin Santana, and the surging Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins 7-2 Tuesday night. An appeals court ruled Tuesday that New York City’s Board of Health acted unconstitutionally when it tried to limit the size on soft drinks served in restaurants. Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the city plans to appeal the decision.
