Three men are wanted for questioning by the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office in connection with a theft at the local Walmart. Last Tuesday, two white males who appear to be in their 20’s to early 30’s entered the Wal-Mart store located on Bluemont Ave. While the two suspects were in the store they stole Apple I-pads from the electronics department which they placed into camping chair bags. As previously announced Hibachi Hut is leaving Aggieville but the popular restaurant is staying in Manhattan. That was the announcement Tuesday afternoon by part owner Kale Becker. Becker says Hibachi Hut’s doors were closed Sunday night, with the lease bought out by an owner who will be moving the restaurant to a building downtown. Brenda and Ward Morgan have purchased the name, recipes, and a lot of the decor of Hibachi Hut for the new location. Lawmakers and other officials from around the state gathered under a cloudy sky this morning at the site of the NBAF facility near the corner of Kimble and Denison. The ceremonial groundbreaking was for the faciliy’s central utility plant, which will provide the lab with things such as backup generators and chilled water. Dignitaries at the event included Governor Sam Brownback, U.S. Senators Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran, Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins, Congressman Tim Huelskamp, Kansas State University President Kirk Schulz, Vice Chair for the Kansas Board of Regents Fred Logan, and Jamie Johnson, who represented the Department of Homeland Security.…
The name of a man injured in a window washing accident at Geary Community hospital this past weekend has been released. David Vanbebber Jr. of Riley was first treated at Geary Community hospital, but then transferred to Stormont-Vail in Topeka, for surgery on his back. Geary County Sheriff Tony Wolf indicated Monday the man fell three to four stories during the Monday morning accident. Vanbebber suffered what Wolf called very serious injuries. The sheriff says the man was wearing a rope harness at the time, and it wasn’t immediately clear how or why he fell.
Fire destroyed the Tradewinds Banquet Facility in Wamego early Sunday morning. The building is located in the 500 block of Plum. Authorities indicate the call came in at about 4:45 a.m. Sunday, with Wamego, St. George, Westmoreland, and Louisville firefighters responding. In addition the Wamego Police department, Pottawatomie county sheriff’s office, county emergency medical service and county emergency management were at the scene. The building and contents are considered a total loss, with the value exceeding 150-thousand dollars. The Kansas Volleyball Association announced rosters on Tuesday for its annual all-star match to be played this weekend in Topeka. Three Washburn Rural netters will participate, Kadie Baumgarner, Alyssa Carney and Sarah Vicory, along with Shanna Witt of Junction City, and Megan Stegman of Washington County. Two area coaches also will be on the sidelines with Sarah Johnson of Silver Lake and Laramie Jueneman of Washington County. The KVA 2013 all-star match will take place at 6:30pm this Saturday night at Washburn Rural High School.
