Running both Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20, Sunset Zoo hosted this year”s SPOOKtacular event. Throughout the zoo, five different candy paths were positioned among the exhibits and both kids and animals were flocking to their activities.  Kids were there for candy and animals were partaking in pumpkin enrichment activities in their habitats. The Nature Exploration Center allowed for more activities as it housed a 100 straw bale maze for the kids to run through.  In the classroom, there was pumpkin bowling, pin the nose on the pumpkin, among others. DERBY, Kan. (AP) Authorities say two men are dead after a small airplane crashed shortly after takeoff from Wichita’s Mid-Continent Airport. Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter says witnesses reported seeing a wing and other debris falling from the twin-engine Cessna before it crashed and burned around 10:15 a.m. Friday in a field southeast of Derby. The two men were the only people on board. Their names were not immediately released. Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Tony Molinaro says the plane was bound for New Braunfels, Texas. HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) A former volunteer firefighter has been sentenced to a year of probation for setting three Reno County grass fires amid severe drought last fall. The Hutchinson News reports Cody Knox, 19, apologized Friday in Reno County District Court. Knox was initially charged with setting 14 grass fires from Oct. 16 to Nov. 27, 2012. Prosecutors dropped 11 counts last month in exchange for his guilty pleas to three of the charges. Knox used a cigarette lighter to set the fires, all of which occurred near Arlington. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A Wichita chiropractor has been charged with carrying out a $1.3 million health care fraud scheme. The U.S. attorney’s office says Jeffrey D. Fenn, 32, of Wichita, surrendered his license Friday, the same day a federal indictment was unsealed. The 26-count indictment alleges that Fenn submitted false claims to Medicare and other health care benefit providers for services that were medically unnecessary or were never performed. Fenn is also accused of evading taxes by overstating his business deductions by $367,000 in 2011. He’s also charged with identity theft and 16 counts of money laundering. Online court records…

Updated at 3:30 p.m. Saturday A Randolph teenager died and two other teens were injured in a one-vehicle accident that occurred at approximately 2:30 Saturday morning near Leonardville. 17-year old Trevor Redding of Randolph, a senior at Blue Valley High School died in the accident. The other teens involved have been identified as 19-year old Garrett Olson of Leonardville and 17-year old Lane Howe of Riley. Both were transported to Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, their conditions were not available.
