A man was arrested late Wednesday evening after following his ex-wife in a car from the St. George area to the Wabaunsee County Courthouse. 37-year-old Jaron Taitano was taken into custody but was released on Thursday. The incident leading to his arrest began shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday when his ex-wife reported the car she was driving was being followed by Taitano. Wabaunsee County officers were alerted to the situation when the woman called 911 while driving south on K-99 from Pottawatomie County into Wabaunsee County. An officer with the Riley County Police Department is on administrative leave after he was arrested Wednesday on charges of unlawful computer acts. Stephen Benjamin Clark, 42, of Manhattan, was arrested shortly before 5 p.m. at 1024 Lobdell Drive and issued a $4,000 bond. He was no longer confined as of Thursday’s arrest report. His arrest follows an RCPD investigation into a domestic related incident. He was placed on administrative leave on Monday after a report was filed, listing a 36-year-old woman as the victim. RCPD officials have refused to release any additional information about the arrest.

By Rose Gruenbacher WESTMORELAND — Dana Chandler received two life sentences on Tuesday with no parole eligibility for 25 years, in yet another drawn-out court proceeding. Shawnee County judge Cheryl Rios ordered Chandler’s terms be served consecutively, meaning parole eligibility actually won’t come until Chandler serves 50 years. Her prior incarceration of about 10 years, resulting from her initial conviction of the crimes, will be credited to the new sentence. By Beth Day The Pottawatomie County Commission did not show a lot of interest Monday in restricting fireworks sales, usage. County Counselor Bernard Irvin, in his weekly update, informed the commission of the new state law concerning the sale of fireworks. “The Kansas legislature passed a new law that amends fireworks sales,” he said. He explained certain retailers would be allowed to sell year around, while seasonal sales have been extended to June 20 to July 7. Previously, sales were allowed June 27 through July 5.
