A couple of weak storm systems will bring minor travel impacts to the area this weekend. On Friday morning, there is a low chance for a mix of light sleet, snow, and freezing rain, particularly north of Interstate 70, with a light glaze of ice possible. Officers filed a report of attempted aggravated arson on February 12, 2025, at approximately 4:42 PM in the 4300 block of Fawn Circle.  Officers report a fire was set at a residence by a subject with one victim, age 62, inside. This morning’s winter weather sent a Salina woman to the hospital after she lost control of her vehicle on I-70 in Geary County. The Kansas Highway Patrol says that 46-year-old Lisa Good was eastbound on the interstate when a truck passed her 2023 Lexus ES, causing Good to have to move further to the right. That caused her to go into the ditch and into a flat spin just east of the exit to U.S. 77 in Junction City. She then struck a delineator post before coming to a rest. By Zach DeLoach City commissioners on Tuesday supported a housing rehabilitation program that would reimburse local nonprofits for performing structural repairs on qualifying homes to build up and maintain Manhattan’s workforce housing stock. Commissioners in October said they were interested in funding a program like that, and community development director Stephanie Peterson on Tuesday presented the framework city staffers had developed since. Commissioners didn’t vote on implementing the program because they were in a work session, but they will take it up at a future meeting. An injury accident occurred at the intersection of Southwind Road and S. Seth Child Road on February 11, 2025, at approximately 12:01 PM. According to the police report, Courtney Downs of Manhattan failed to yield the right of way at a traffic light, causing her vehicle to collide with a car driven by Dauane Briggs of Salina.
